Montreal, August 1, 2007 - Teesri Duniya Theatre and the Kabir Cultural Centre are proud to present A Story and a Song by Aparna Sindhoor, August 25, 2007 8pm at the D.B.Clarke Theatre, 1455 de Maisonneuve west Montreal.

A Story and a Song blends Bharatanatyam, yoga and an Indian martial art form called Kalarippayattu within a theatrical structure to tell stories about women, the environment, love and sensuality. The stories are from A. K. Ramanujan’s translations of Kannada folktales, Native American tales by Richard Erdoes and Alfonso Ortiz (editors), and local tales by grandmothers, friends and family.

A Story and a Song is part of Teesri Duniya’ s multidisciplinary program called Bridges, which showcases innovative and new art forms and styles from culturally diverse artist while building bridges across cultures.

Aparna Sindhoor
Aparna Sindhoor is a choreographer, director and dancer from Mysore, India who now lives in the United States. She trained in Bharatanatyam in India for 20 years, including 15 years with renowned guru Padmabhushan Dr. K. Venkatalakshamma. Aparna is the artistic director of Aparna Sindhoor Dance Theatre, based in Boston, Massachusetts Critics have hailed Aparna as a new voice in dance-theatre who creates contemporary works with extraordinary artistry and challenges the boundaries of traditional Indian dance, while helping strengthen the tradition. For the last few years, Aparna has been working with Teesri Duniya Theatre on various projects, including Rahul Varma’s Bhopal in 2005 and 2006. (www.navarasa.org)

Anil Natyaveda and Prateesh Sukumara Pillai
Currently on tour across North America, Anil and Prateesh are highly accomplished artists trained in Bharatnatyam, Mohini Attam, Kuchupudi and contemporary dance. They are among the most accomplished practitioners of Kalarippayattu, an Indian martial art form from Kerala. They have performed all over the world, including the Edinburg Dance Festival. They have been working with Aparna Sindhoor for the past three years. This is their first visit to North America.
